Banyan Tree Chain Names New CEO

A familiar face to Phuket, Abid Butt has been named as CEO of Singapore-based Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts.
Prior to this appointment Butt was Vice President of Host Hotels International in the US with responsibility for asset management.
His stint in Phuket in 2000 as General Manager of the flagship Banyan Tree gave him some very relevant local knowledge.
As for Banyan Tree's affiliated Angsana, it's unclear how the upper level management structure will be framed.
Here in Phuket the property is facing a significant challenge after departing the Starwood chain in what is now an exceptionally competitive market place.
