Banyan Tree Migrating Operations To ACCOR

Category: Hotels, Posted:02 Mar 2017 | 16:59 pm

I have been reading an interview with Banyan Tree Founder KP Ho by TTG Asia’s Raini Hamdi with interest.

Under the recent deal that has seen ACCOR purchase a stake in Banyan Tree of 5%, with the option of a further 5%, the role of operations will move to ACCOR with Banyan becoming more of a brand manager.

Meanwhile Banyan Tree have also  done a deal in China with Mainland real estate group China Vanke.

The goal of Banyan Tree China is to consolidate assets and clearly address mounting debt concerns of the group.

Looking at the deals externally, ACCOR who have been intent on getting into more distribution-led brands and the sharing economy is stepping backward into an operating model, whereas Banyan are moving into unknown territory.

To say the least, its complicated and much like the Marwood merger, the future no doubt holds many surprises.
