Can Phuket Host Asia's Cruise Ship Influx?

As Asia's middle class or consumer class continues to view travel as an object of desire, the regions cruise industry is ramping up.
Recently the Philippines released a manual "Cruising Philippines, Asia's Carribean" which highlights the country's ports, tourism attractions and other facilities.
Phuket remains well positioned to service the industry, though the port in Ao Mahkam needs a serious upgrade as does the infrastructure.
While the island's international airport continues to be staggering growth, mitigating another market segment makes absolute sense.
When will Thailand understand the growth potential for the cruise industry in Asia?
