Cruise Boom Spurs Phuket Tourism

Category: Tourism, Posted:11 Mar 2017 | 14:11 pm

The island’s cruise sector has a terrific week with two of Royal Caribbean International’s  mega ships come calling.

Royal Caribbean’s  Mariner of the Seas and the Ovation of the Seas brought a reported 7,500 visitors.

According to Travel Daily Asia the latter which brought in 4,300 passengers is the largest number ever recorded in  Phuket for a single stop.

The fly-cruise market in Southeast Asia is in fire with one of the most popular routes being Singapore, Penang, Langkawi and Phuket.

The Singapore Straits Times has said the government is expecting the Mariner of the Seas to bring in 170,000 passengers over the next three years.

Looking at the Lion City, the  Singapore Tourism  Board has said that 2016 hosted over 1.2 million cruise passengers.

For Phuket the need for a quality cruise ship terminal has never been more important.
