Debate Over One Bangkok Airport Policy
Thailand's debacle over the two airports at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang continues to place the future direction in the unclear basket.
A new report by the International Civil Organization (ICAO) has advocated a long-term one-airport policy.
Plans for an upgrade to Suvarnabhumi, which would increase capacity from the present 45 million passengers to over 60 million and a third runway continue to be top agenda items for the AoT.
Another initiative has the creation of a new dedicated domestic terminal in order to more efficiently manage traffic.
ICAO's call mirrors that of leading transport organization IATA who made a similar consolidation recommendation for a sole gateway airport.
