DEPARTURES Hung Fat's Shuts Down

Category: Tourism, Posted:22 Apr 2010 | 06:00 am

Phuket's appetite for Chinese cuisine looks to be put on hold as the Baan Rim Pa Group's Hung Fat's has shut down. Started off with authentic Sichuan chef's the restaurant eventually branched out into pan Asian cuisine in a struggle to find it's way in the marketplace.
Despite a large Chinese-Thai population on the island and certainly growing segment of Chinese tourists, there remain very limited speciality options. It's understood artist and metal sculptor John Underwood will be redeveloping the site.
Restaurants continue to see ups and downs as one of Phuket's well known names Don's in Rawai closed down a few months ago. Don has decided to pursue a retirement plan that sees him doing languange studies and travel while his restaurant in the early part of the decade had become a major meeting place for locals and tourist alike.
Over the years an influx of new outlets has created more competition for the island and tastes and trends continue to move faster then a motobike speeding on the by-pass road.
