Megaworld founder Andrew Tan has joined hands with Star Cruises who are one of the worlds largest cruise operators and is controlled by Malaysian gaming giant Genting Berhad. Along with operations in Malaysia, the group won a hotly contested bidding for the Resorts World project on Singapore's Sentosa island which features a landmark Universal Studios amusement attraction.
The Philippine project located on 25-hectres called Newport City features a Resorts World casino three hotels including one managed by global giant Marriott, large scale shopping and residential condominiums. Looking at it's favorable door to door travel time to the Asian region along with the important mainland China market, the country is vying to compete with Macau and Singapore in a Las Vegas style play aimed to attracting not only gamblers but mass tourism.
