A marked decrease in overseas travel by residents of the UK has shown steep declines in the past few fears. According to a report published by the United Kingdom's Office for National Statistics year on year figures in 2009 versus 2008 dropped by 15% to 58.6 million.
On a macro basis the drop was the largest in three decades dating back to the 1970's. Most experts point to the devaluation of the GBP pound and a prolonged recession as having the strongest impact.
The study also points out that spending for those traveling aboard has also been hit with more travelers becoming cost conscious.
