First Thai MERS Case Makes Headlines

Category: Tourism, Posted:19 Jun 2015 | 14:21 pm

Flying back to Phuket today, the headline on the cover of Singapore's Straits Times screams out that Thailand has its first MERS (Middle East respiratory syndrome) patient.
The person involved is reportedly an older gentleman from Oman who came to Bangkok for medical treatment.
As the island tourism sector forages through the depth's of low season the news is unlikely positive news.
South Korea remains at the epicenter of the region's health crisis, and remains a key feeder of traveler's to Phuket.
Meanwhile on a larger scale hoteliers will simply need to take a wait and see approach towards the issue in what continue to be a year of disruptive events which no business plan process seems able to forecast.
