Government Asked For Phuket Earthquake Warning System
Phuket's MP Anchalee Vanich-Thepabutr has urgently asked the Thai government to set up an earthquake station on the island according to the Bangkok Post.
She cited the National Disaster Warning Centre that the cost would be lower than THB2 million.
The earthquake detection system would enable an official early warning system for island residents and tourists.
Additionally a request was made for public distribution of disaster information and information regarding what to do in the event of an earthquake.
A public warning system would make sense given the issues both last week and in 2004 when mobile phone networks were overloaded and there was no way for the public to access real time information.
At the same time social media locally in Thailand has seen an uplift in rumors that the island will be underwater by April 28th.
Phuket isn't Atlantis but certainly Khun Anchalee's actions are timely and rational. Bangkok are you there?
