HELTER SKELTER A Nation Stands Divided

Category: Tourism, Posted:11 Apr 2010 | 11:27 am

While the Saturday events in Bangkok have left Thailand and those around the globe stunned at the bloodshed, what is becoming more apparent as the drama unfolds is that the great divide is becoming even greater as the conflict spirals on.
Perhaps Abraham Lincoln said it best in his famous speech as tensions rose between the north and the south as he uttered "A house divided cannot stand."
In fact the quote came from the Bible Matthew 12:25 which in KMV version says "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand."
As Thai and foreign residents alike struggle with the compelling issues at hand Phuket stands braced for a certain impact on its tourism industry. While travel advisories have now been stepped up to not only Bangkok but the entire country of Thailand as well, the island waits and listens to the deafening roar from both the media and public alike.
We can only hope for resolution and peace in the coming days ahead but also understand the road to democracy remains a frightful journey at the best of times.
