With tourism booming in the region the cruise sector is looking to gear up.
Hong Kong's new USD1 billon Kai Tak terminal is a lead indicator of things to come.
Currently other popular Asian ports of call include Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
Strangely the marine based country of The Philippines with 7,107 islands and a vast array of ports has yet to tap into the sector.
Indonesia is targeting development of the sector but the planned Turtle Island project has yet to be realized, as does a stalled mega port in Lombok.
While hotels remain a booming business, the cruise sector should and will take off in the longer term.
