HOTELS The Arcane Art of Noise

It's 5 am and I am staying in a new resort hotel in Bali's destination resort Nusa Dua.
I awake to the sound of snap, crackle and pop, and foreign sounding voices pushing their suitcases on wheels.
Indeed I am a victim of a long and far reaching case of "Designer's Deafness or DD Disorder."
Resorts and economy hotels are the main culprits using tiled corridors, marble or wood floors that bounce sound to and fro like an amped up kangaroo.
It's as if entire city is living under the crack of my door.
Late night or early morning insomnia, the opening and closing of elevators or ill timed overnight public area cleaning all contribute.
Hotels are in the business of a good nights sleep, but soundproofing and door seals often remain as illusive as the mysterious disappearance of Atlantis.
That's it, I'm hiding under the covers, turn on the TV to white noise and pray for the coming light of day to escape the rumple of the hotel jungle.
