How To Manage One Billion Tourists
Last year's international global tourism numbers surged to 1.1 billion.
That is too many zero's to count so let's abbreviate.
In the day and age of now everyone can fly, the challenge how to manage tourism's growing impact on the environment is daunting to say the least.
From a greenhouse gas slant, to carbon emissions, to the disappearing rain forest and vanishing culture, the earth seems to be taking a high velocity mission to a place we have never known before.
In 2014 the number is expect to rise, and looking into the crystal ball there is little reason to expect any near term dips.
Perhaps tourism's greatest flaw is the get off the couch, forget a staycation and get out and go credo.
Can this be done in a sustainable manner remains the grail.
