Indonesia's Lion Air Orders 230 Boeing Aircraft
No, that's not a typo but Indonesian low-cost airline carrier Lion Air and Boeing has signed a USD22.4 deal for 230 aircraft.
The news is being touted as the largest commercial aviation agreement in history.
Breaking down the numbers the airline will take on 201 Boeing 737 MAX and 29 next generation 737-900ER's.
Initial deliveries start in 2017 and run though 2026.
Lion's rationale on the new 737 MAX is greater fuel efficiency and right sized for the growing market.
Reportedly the airline currently has over 50% of Indonesia's domestic market share.
Asia's low-cost carriers are all eagerly awaiting the implementation of the 2015 AEC guideline which will free up trade and provide an open skies initiative between members.
Locally Lion has experienced some public relations issues recently with pilots failing drug tests.
