Jakarta Airlift Goes Into Plan B Mode
One of Asia's busiest gateway airports Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta is hoping to get a traffic reprieve as a number of airlines are looking at shifting some operations to Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in East Jakarta.
The latter facility currently is in service for only private aircraft and military use but could easily be converted to commercial operation.
Indonesia's government is currently evaluating the shift and flights to the second gateway could commence within next year.
Many other Asian capitals are facing similar air traffic issues and as is the case in Bangkok a second airport seems to be a very practical solution to easing traffic.
