Khao Lak Retains Charm
Sitting at the JW Marriott in Khao Lak on a lovely sunny Sunday, the fresh air is intoxicating.
Though the hotel is fully booked with families from every corner of the world, the vibe is one of relaxed charm.
While Phuket is immersed in overcrowded beaches, touts everywhere you turn, up here you can still stroll down the beach without banging headfirst into a sun lounger.
Of course come late April the town tends to empty and the ominous curse of seasonality will rise, only falling when autumn comes to far away Europe.
Despite the brand stable of Marriott, Ramada, Le Meridien, and most recently Best Western, the destination remains one where hotels make their money during high season and try not to spend it all during the low lean months.
Will things change as Phuket plunges head on into oblivion of concrete? Hard to say but one thing for sure is that I remain a big fan of all Khao Lak.
