A wide-spread public outcry over a proposed coal-fired power plant in nearby Krabi has seen the project's environmental permit denied.
According to Thailand's Nation newspaper the EIA (environmental impact assessment) failed during the approval process on grounds it was incomplete.
Issues related to the environment and health issues have been cited.
Krabi's tourism sector has been increasingly vocal over the plan, as it threatens a large portion of coastline including nearby Koh Lanta.
