Local Hotel Group May Brand Properties
Phuket's Kata Group has made public its interest to brand their hospitality assets with an international operator.
In an interview with the Bangkok Post published today, President Pramookpisitt Achariyachai said the group is looking to list Thailand's Market for Alternative Investments (MAI) by 2018.
At the same time the group is looking to possibly affiliate to an overseas chain due to increased competition in the sector.
It has been widely speculated in the market that Kata has been considering a brand alliance over the past few months.
Currently the group owns and operates three hotels in Phuket, and single properties in Khao Lak, Krabi and Koh Samui.
While in the pipeline are new hotels under Kata Group's in-house Landmark brand coming up in Patong, Kata and Phuket City.
As a series of new modern hotels come online in Phuket over the next few years, there is increasing pressure for local owners to either upgrade, brand or transact legacy-type hospitality assets.
