The much-anticipated launch of AirAsia in August is expected to turn domestic travel in the country on its head.
Using the established infrastructure of partner All Nippon Airways (ANA), pricing points for AirAsia will be the lowest in the industry.
Another LCC JetStar Japan, which partnered with legacy carrier Japan Airlines (JAL), is likely to face fierce competition.
Financially stressed Japan Airlines had been relying on the start-up with JetStar to help place the carrier back on the come back trail.
For now consumers are going to be the biggest beneficiary in the latest turn age of the LCC.
