Mai Khao Convention Center Making News Again
The Thai government’s proposed Phuket Convention Center in Mai Khao is back in play according to news today in the Bangkok Post.
On a site located at the northern tip of the island the 150 rai land parcel is controlled by the Treasury Department.
A few years back the prospective mega convention and exhibition center was put on hold by the previous administration.
According to the news, the project is currently under evaluation pending some design changes needed due to environmental concerns and will be put forward again for government approval.
Phuket’s MICE segment has strongly rebounded this year and the TAT’s quality push is firmly promoting this sector.
Mai Khao is in the process of growing with two near large-scale hotel projects in the development process, while nearby Natai is also seeing a renewed hotel push.
Two other international branded hospitality projects on the east coast highlighted by the upcoming Sheraton Grand Bay in Ao Po fall into the catchment area.
If the facility moves ahead, expect the island’s development footprint to expedite in the northern corridor.
