Maldives Keeps Getting More Expensive

Not only are hotel rooms and transport pushing prices higher in the Maldives but new government taxes are raising the cost of being a tourist.
Effective from the begging of this year was a USD8 a night bed tax.
In November of this year the bed tax will be rolled off but a 12% GST implemented.
Current GST (General Sales Tax) is set at 8%.
Thailand remains one of the world's best values in terms of hotel prices and this is in no danger of changing anytime soon.
