Maldives Resorts Concerns Over Airlift Issue
Last year's acquisition and merger of the two Maldivian floatplane operators TMA and MAT by the Blackstone private equity group.
Floatplanes for upscale and luxury resorts throughout the island nation are highly leveraged on guest transportation by TMA.
Visiting the Maldives last week a number of resorts were talking about the prospects of the development of more domestic commercial airports and the possibility of new floatplane operators which would create greater diversity and address the high cost tourists currently pay.
As larger resorts are being built something has to give to address broader domestic airlift into the tourism dependent country.
