MISSION CONTROL We Have A Missing Convention Center?
As the late great Hunter S. Thomson railed on in the tome Fear and Loathing On The Campaign Trail "How long, O Lord…How long? Where will it end?"
We might not exactly be on a mission to the moon but building a convention center is not really rocket science? Or is it?
The latest news comes that Thailand's Finance Minister Thirachai Phuvanatnaranubala according to the Phuket Gazette "has pledged to accelerate long-delayed property projects run by the Treasury Department, including the Phuket International Convention and Exhibition Center."
Headlines in the media were made earlier in the year when the environmental impact assessment for the project was rejected. Though a few months later hope once again sprang forward with reports that a two year extension had been granted to sort through the EIA process.
Though the Gazette article goes on to add that some of the other mega pending projects by the government had reportedly been delayed up to 18 years.
Despite the absurdly sounding number (roughly the same time it takes to clear lined at the airport immigration counters or drive from Mai Khao to Rawai in peak season) there remains a glimmer of hope.
Meanwhile traveling to Bali during the past few months I can't help but marvel at the speed the new international terminal is rising or other road infrastructure projects.
Ah yes, talking about the airport expansion in Phuket "Houston do we have a problem?"
