Phuket Convention Center Delayed Over Graft Allegations

One of the island's key tourism infrastructure projects the Phuket Convention and Exhibition Center has been delayed over graft charges by Thailand's Finance Ministry. Allegations in the print media have reported that kickbacks by politicians for design work and now an ensuring investigation have ground progress to a stop.
Located in Mai Khao on a 150 rai plot owned by the Treasury Department, the THB 2.6 billion development will be a key driver for attracting both the international and domestic MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) segment.
