According to the Center for Asia Pacific Aviation LCC's now account for nearly one in six passengers flying in the region. This equates back to 15.7% in the last year. If you go back to 2001, the figure then was only 1.1%.
In reality the figures are skewed as legacy carriers mainly fly wide body aircraft with substantially larger seat capacity and hence higher passenger numbers; while LCC' use smaller regional aircraft.
