PIMEX TRAFFIC SNARL One For The Road

Category: Tourism, Posted:10 Jan 2010 | 13:20 pm

Big events on an island such as Phuket, which relies on tourism as its lifeblood, remain nothing but a positive. Be it the Phuket International Boat Show (PIMEX), Laguna Phuket Triathlon or Marathon, Kings Cup Regatta or else a growing number of music and cultural events, which are creating positive vibes and a rejuvenated interest in the destination.
What is concerning though is the disconnect by the Government in terms of roadwork's done during high season which this year seriously marred access to PIMEX at the Royal Phuket Marina. With large scale work commencing just a week prior to the event and resulting traffic backlogs, which had both local and tourists avoiding the area like the plague. No doubt better coordination could have worked wonders.
While the creaking island infrastructure desperately needs improvement. Hopefully a greater recognition of the importance of these big events by the powers that be will take into account commencement and completion schedules in the future.
