The media is reporting that environmental advocates are voicing concerns about a proposed coal port and power plant in nearby Krabi.
A massive 700 megawatt power plant which would be developed by the Electrical Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has caused tourism leaders in both Krabi and Koh Lanta to oppose the move.
According to the Phuket Gazette, the project which is located south of Krabi and near to Koh Lanta is currently undergoing environmental and heath impact assessments.
The power plant would require a steady stream of large supply vessels that could harm the areas fragile marine ecosystem and wildlife.
