Richard Branson's Virgin Blue Looks for Daily Phuket Flights
Thailand's resort island of Phuket is the first destination in the country which Vigin Blue has sought approval for daily flights from Australia. According to etravelblackboard and a statement issued by a spokesperson for the Virgin Group the airline would service the route with a Boeing 737 and seek rights for a period of 5 years.
Currently Tiger Airways serves the Australia market from its Singapore hub, while Jetstar discontinued flights last year. Singapore Airlines under carrier Silk Air target the long haul market combining legs with SQ. Also Thai currently serves Perth with direct flights.
Airlift is a key indicator in tourism recovery and if approved the Virgin Blue service will be a boom to Phuket's tourism market.
