Samui Offshore Drilling Starting Within 2011

A controversial program by NuCoastal Thailand for offshore oil and gas exploration is set to start before the end of the year.
While local residents have voiced strong concern and billboards dot the tropical island in opposition to the move, the company has completed a full environmental assessment and obtain government approval.
While drilling offshore of Songkhla has been done over a number of years the expansion into close proximity to the tourist destination of Koh Samui has put the issue in the public limelight.
