SRI LANKA Doing The Needful
Traveling to Sri Lanka is always a bit like turning back the pages of Asia some 25 years.
I like visiting here; it's refreshing to see those little cultural idiosyncrasies that separate the destination from the ordinary.
Today was one dominated by that iconoclastic "doing the needful."
Whether it was the hour it took to connect to the hotel Internet, or the two to dig up an adapter.
Things do work here; it's just at their own time and pace. Hotels remain nostalgic in the throwback practices of days past.
And yes for those of you who remember Hong Kong and Singapore in the 70's and 80's, these bed palaces remain active social places in the local community for meetings, dining and events.
Eating is always sensational – the tasty string hoppers are my personal favorite.
Of course Sunday was a great respite from the traffic, and today will see a return of the teeming streets full of chaos.
But again that's the pleasure of travel to different places, its celebrating the differences and nuances of a destination.
Ah yes Sri Lanka is indeed doing the needful.
