Sri Lanka Opens Second Gateway Airport

Sri Lanka's tourism industry is heralding the commencement of operations of the MRIA (Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport) just north of Hambantota.
In the past the country has relied on a single gateway in Colombo for visitors.
The new airlift is expected to open up the south coast to greater number of visitors and also as an entry to the east coast and inland Yala region.
Shangri-La have a hotel and residence project in the area which is currently under development.
