TEE TIME Vietnam 89 Golf Courses By 2020
Viewing to become an Asian Tiger (sorry not Woods) of tourism the Prime Minister of Vietnam has signed into law calling for 89 golf courses to be developed by 2020. Currently the currently the country only has 19 so that leaves 70 more in little more then a fast tracked decade of growth.
In Decision 1946 there are some limitations spelled out covering prohibitions on industrial, urban and forest areas, non use of state funding unless its for a community course, only 18 holes with a ceiling of 100 hectares, usage of environmental impact studies for approval and one which will have property developers agonizing is no homes or villas for sale on courses though low rise rentals are allowed assuming they don't exceed 10% of the total area.
Planning is on a countrywide basis with the focus to see most development in the tourist areas such as Danang, Hue, Nha Trang along with coverage throughout Vietnam. Back of the current hotel development boom golf is a natural demand generator and there is a strategy to key into important attractions in order to compete with high profile tourism countries such as Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia.
