Up-And-Coming Indonesian Island Of Belitung
I’m often asked for top picks of up and coming destinations an one that is firmly on my radar is Belitung Indonesia.
Located around halfway between Singapore and Jakarta and East of Sumatra, I spent time on the island this week checking out the tourism possibilities.
With an airport expansion underway, the flying time from Jakarta is just an hour.
Currently Belitung receives about 250,000 tourists, with the domestic market accounting for the vast majority.
Though there are around 1,200 hotel rooms in the supply side a rising number of projects are on the horizon.
The key trading area is the town of Tanjung Pandan which is near to the airport and also port, but emerging tourism areas are located on the Northwest coast and also the South.
History, cultural and some amazing nature are just a few of the features.
While Phu Quoc, Flores (Labuan Bajo) and a few other fast developing islands are making loud noises in Southeast Asia’s early stage tourism development, expect to hear more from Belitung in the not so distant future.
