Upcoming Thailand Travel Mart Will Gauge Phuket Recovery
Bangkok is set to host the Thailand Travel Mart Plus 2009 from June 3-7 at Challenger Hall, Impact Thong Thani. With a host of Phuket hotels attending, there is keen interest to see just what the overseas, regional and domestic interest is in the islands troubled hospitality sector will be. Over 400 booths are being set up in a format that includes travel trade days for more then 300 overseas buyers and then public days where consumers can purchase a variety of promotional packages.
With forecasts now looking into 2010 for recovery, the prospects of the high season from October onward are far from being clear and there seems to be little in the way of solid figures or trends yet emerging to indicate if tourism will start to bounce back this year. In the current world view lead travel time is becoming shorter and shorter, so business planning cycles are now becoming somewhat of an arcane practice and it remains nearly impossible to predict levels of visitors. Stay tuned for feedback from the event.
