Wake Me Up When The War Is Over
The older I get the harder it is to sleep. It's hard to say exactly when the sandman took me off his list, but the entire idea of a full nights slumber remains elusive.
As Thailand's warring political factions continue to up the ante and the threat of a Bangkok blockade looms nearer and nearer, my inner sandman somehow seems to be on the cusp of a return to form.
Is the current state of politics in Thailand absolutely maddening? Yes. Will the situation have a negative impact on the country's tourism prospects in 2014? Ditto.
As for those in Phuket who believe the island can escape a hard landing guess again? With the baht freefalling and mounting foreign travel advisories rolling in; the quest for quality instead of quantity is out the window.
In the year 2014, when and if things stabilize we will again be put into a position to buy back business. The cost in reputation is not only that of Bangkok but it has a knock on effect to the entire country including our island.
Sad, but true.
As for me, my own inability to fix the greater woes of the ailing country has created a sense of lethargy. Sleep could be the only solution to miss the passion play in progress.
While optimism remains the goal, truth is these days I'd almost rather roll over when the alarm clock rings and pull the cover up over my head.
