WELLNESS WATCH Ayurvedic Destination Resort
A recent trip to Sri Lanka had my visiting the newly opened Heritance Ayurveda MahaGedara resort.
Located south of Colombo the renovated Geoffrey Bawa designed property has been upgraded and positioned into a destination wellness retreat.
Daily consultations with Doctors, treatments, yoga and meditation are part of the regime. Cuisine includes supplements which are provided for guests using individual packages at the entrance of the restaurant.
Health, spirit and rejuvenation are the key component of the offering, and most rooms do not have televisions. Alcohol is available but consumption is discouraged.
It's a unique offering and speaking to management the hotel was already had 65% on the books for high season with a strong German contingent.
For Phuket the track record of this sort of niche product has not been totally positive, given the experience at the former Six Senses Naka Island failed commercially.
That given numerous resorts in Ubud, Chivasom in Hua Hin and Kamalaya on Samui have strong followings.
