White Knuckle Flying Phuket-Style
Today was not my day to die in a plane crash.
Coming into Phuket International Airport on Thai Airways at 10 am this morning from Bangkok, as we descended toward the island things turned bumpy.
Next came the rain spots on the windows and as the landing gear came down we next were baptized in a flood of water and turbulence.
Just as we passed over Thepkassatri Road, the pilot cranked the plane up to the clouds heavenward.
That of course is not the worst part, as passengers gripped armrests, some crying, and muted screams and of course the worse part the inflight soothing music brought on Kenny G. I hate Kenny G.
Our E ticket was punched as for the next ten minute we climbed, bumped, humped and battered out way heavenward.
A Western lady in back us started chattering about plane crashes to anyone who would listen as I silently pondered slapping her in the face.
Thankfully the pilot came on the PA, and explained the situation and that we would try again soon when the weather got better.
Holding patterns in bad weather is like s New Delhi taxi driver out of control. While I took to typing I wondered would the air crash investigators pull my Apple MacBook Air from the carnage and bring my final words to life
As we headed toward landing Kenny G accompanied our doomed ship of soul's into yet an unknown destination.
Just before our second landing attempt my phone, which apparently I hadn't turned off rang and instinctively I answered. On the other end was Khun Oi from TrueVisions trying to sell me high speed something. Was this to be my final contact with the outside world. I do love TV but it's not worth dying for.
Long last we landed, safely but my white knuckles remain. Today was not my day to go, and certainly the worst would be to die with Kenny G.
